snow days bring me absolute joy. the hushed whispers of sound. the fresh immaculate scent.

all of the paint work has been completed for this batch.

and all of the cloth root limbs have been attached.

most of the clothing work has already been completed...

- but there is just something that is missing that i haven't been able to put my finger on.

i've been testing out a few options and hopefully have come to a decision on which way to go.

my vow to myself this year is that i will be better at not wasting what precious time i have.

after i had a baby last year, i was so completely drained that any time that wasn't consumed with my new role as a mother (which was a minuscule amount) was spent in a sort of immobile slump.

as time has gone on, baby and i have grown into our new lives together and i am finding a little more time and energy.

i am taking it slow as far as making dolls so i don't become overly frustrated and trying to expand a bit and do some more writing (with the hope that i'll finally relinquish keeping it so close to my chest).

i also have a new yearning developing - a nesting instinct, i suppose. i have a new found urge to create things for my (and my family's) personal use.

i am devoting the nighttime hours after baby has been put to bed for this specific endeavor. by the end of the day i am almost completely wiped physically and mentally that working on art or writing just isn't feasible. so, these are my new crafting hours.

this week i'm starting to make a poof/pom-pom rug for baby.

she's extremely tactile and already has an affinity for yarn, so i am thinking it is something that she can appreciate - as much as a one year old can appreciate anything.

making endless pom-poms is a delightfully meditative activity to help me wind down before bed.

for those of you who didn't know, my husband is a real jack of all trades and one of his many talents is his drawing ability. we really do not collaborate often. we talk about working on projects together from time to time, but we end up becoming absorbed in our separate works and a joint venture never comes into fruition.

until now.

my other half has a real fondness for comics - in fact, he illustrates a weekly web comic called the spookies - so we decided to work on a one page comic for submission to the dc conspiracy publication magic bullet.

i supplied the writing & concepts and my husband did the illustrations. it was an enjoyable endeavor and we have plans to collaborate again.

it is currently available - for free! - at comic book shops around the washington dc metro area. a sample is shown below.
